Writing For You Now
Can you relate to the following story? I'm certain many of us can in our earlier years.
The young woman sat in the coffee shop just minding her own business working on her writing project, when suddenly a man approached her and maliciously accused her of taking his bottled water. She denied it whole-heartedly as she truly was innocent. She obsessed over that incident for the rest of the day and into the night. She even cried about the incident before going to bed because she knew she was innocent; this very rude man had accused her of taking his bottled water.
This young woman allowed this man in her thoughts for hours, and hours, and into the night, but why would this young woman give this rude man free rent in her head?
More likely because she didn't have these tools:
- Let it go: If you're innocent and have done nothing wrong then there is absolutely no need to obsess about an insignificant situation. The best practice is to just let it go. Every person who has ever interacted with others has at one point or another been accused of untrue petty misbehavior.
- Move on to the next project: Don't give up your precious time dwelling on trivial accusations that will hinder you from being productive with your next project, or from keeping your next commitment, or even interacting with others for that matter.
- Let things iron themselves out: And they will in most minor cases. We don't have to assign those minor incidents a major case. We have a choice. Life happens, things get misplaced, words are misunderstood, and people will jump to wrong conclusions.
These tools are not meant to seem indifferent, but there are many situations in life that just happen to us simply as an outcome from human interaction because we deal with human nature at all times. Let's not be like this young woman, let's be wise and use these tools.
Most of all, remember to never give up your precious time, your non-renewable resource, to petty insignificant situations such as being accused of taking someone's bottled water, or even taking someone's cup. Those items will pop up later and guess who will be in need of some tools?
