Writing For You Now
It's mid afternoon and there you sit in the meeting with your co-workers but while someone is speaking you are yawning, or you find yourself at a conference sitting in the back watching the speaker, but nothing is getting through. You haven't heard a single word that was being said, worse yet someone turns to you and asks you, what did they say?' and your response is, I missed it too'. In both of these instances it's as if you were in a trance, and yes yawning is very contagious and it's hard to stop once it has started. People will joke about it, but it's true. Your body is very much alive and aware of your inner workings as well as the outer stimuli. Your body is always sending signals to you with the hope that you will take action. One example of this is when you have the need to go to the bathroom, your bladder says, Okay I'm full, it's time for a bathroom break to empty the contents, please!
Ultradian means occurring more than once a day and rhythm means pattern, therefore the ultradian rhythm is a repeating pattern in the human physiology for the purpose of healthy mind-body self-regulation. This pattern is repeated every 90 minutes and need rest in between cycles. If the Ultradian rhythm body signals are not given the proper attention, the price for neglect may be illness in the body due to excessive stress.
Here are just a few of the signals from your body:
Daydreaming
Fiddling with a pencil
Yawning
Feeling restless
Slow reflexes
So what simple things can you do to give your body the proper attention?
Get up and walk around, stretch while you're at it
Have a snack
Drink some water or juice
Take in a deep, deep breath
Bring to mind a happy memory
Be good to yourself, you wouldn't just sit there if your foot fell asleep, would you? Yes, it will take a little effort on your part to take some action to stay awake at the meeting or conference. So what if you have to get up and disrupt a few people in their seats? If enough people start fidgeting, the speaker may get the signal that this body of people is sending out a signal asking for a stretch, a drink of water, a walk down the hallway, or a peek at the beautiful outdoors for fresh air. Be good to yourself, it's your body and your ultradian rhythm!
